Learned to be the voice of poor

I am Rinki Ahirwar 21 years old. We are five sisters, where my mom and dad used to go for labour work in city. I am in third year of my BA (Bachlor’s of Arts).

Earlier, I used to think about what should girl do after studying too much. She needs to learn domestic work ultimately, she needs to have take care of the house after marriage. What will do after studying too much. Earlier, I had these kinds of thoughts. I have been involved with the adolescence group in the village as a member of Gramin Swavlamban Samiti for five years. I gain my knowledge from organisations about child marriage, violence against women, child rights, safe migration of workers and helpline number. Since then whenever workers migrate to other city for work I used to sensitize them with each legal rights of employee. I also used to aware them with legal rights against retrenchment and workplace harassment, especially for women. So, they could reap the benefits.

Since then I have been focusing on my studies, I am learning and I want to study further. I also want to gain knowledge to assist the poor and women workers in combating exploitation, discrimination and workplace harassment.

I want to urge the Gramin Swavlamban Samiti to continue to be the voice of poor, the underprivileged and the women, much like the committee is currently doing.
