I Want to Study and Move Ahead

My name is Shivi, I am 15 years old, and currently, I am studying in 12th grade. My parents work as vegetable sellers, and we have a family of nine members. Due to poverty, I also assist them in selling vegetables. However, after earning money from selling vegetables, I lost focus on my studies and became more interested in the business.

One day, the sister from Garima Kendra called me to the center and advised me to concentrate on my studies and continue selling vegetables later.

I redirected my focus towards school once again. However, after some time, my younger sister fell seriously ill. It was a devastating blow to our family, and everyone, including myself, started gathering funds for her treatment. I had to leave school and resume selling vegetables to support my family.

Once, while selling vegetables in the market, the sister from Garima Kendra saw me and asked if I had left school again.

I explained to her about my sister’s illness, and she advised me to visit the Garima Center the next day. There, she emphasized the importance of education to me. Determined not to give up, regardless of the circumstances, I decided to stay in school.

Garima Kendra provided me with a tablet and a mobile for studying, and now I am studying on them while also managing household responsibilities.

My dream is to pass the UPSC exam and become an IAS officer. With the support of the organization (Grameen Swalamban Samiti), I am confident that I will achieve my dream.
